Mandarmani is an off-beat destination for the tourists who want to explore the new destinations. It is still a virgin spot as it does not reverberate with the scurrying feet and prattling of horde of tourists. The serenity of the place makes you forget the commotion of city place and a perfect destination for health recovery.

Laying at 180 km. distance from Kolkata it is beckoning the tourists with its pristine beauty mingled with the sound of lashing waves. At a full moon light when you saunter along the moonlit sea beaches and get your feet kissed by the crushing waves it will be a perfect solace for your mind. The nighttime sea looks spangled with white tiny spots of surging waves all over. The sunrise and sunshine are always two special attractions on sea beach and Mandarmani is no exception to that. As the beach is still free from the hustle and bustle, so feasting your eyes on nature’s sublime beauty will be much easier. You can freeze these precious moments in your camera.

At the end point of beach where the sea meets the river, you can watch the crawling red crabs all over. The waddle of the fishermen with nets in their hands and the row of jhau trees along one side of the river on the background of the picturesque beauty will be locked in your mind’s eye for ever.

Poush mela is a big festival in Shantiniketan in West Bengal. It happens in end of December. This festival is full of folk songs, baul songs, theatres and group dance. During this time the air in Shantiniketan is filled with colors, soft musics. People from all over India and outside India come here to rediscover India

On the first day the festival begins with community prayer or Brahmopasana written by Maharshi and Rabindranath. This followed by Tagore songs. Next comes the famous folk songs of West Bengal along with boul songs.

On the second day the university arrange a award ceremony for students who have completed graduation. At the fair, the centre stage never quietens – more bauls and kirtan singers perform ; jatras and folk theatres are held.

On the second evening, there is a celebration of fireworks, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone

By the third day the number of tourist reach to near about ten thousand ; at night some areas are flooded with neon lights, while at other corners, you cannot even discern your own big toe. Irrespective of their urban or rural roots, children happily pick up brightly coloured wooden toys while their mothers select palm-leaf trinkets

Usually, the three days include Christmas Day and everyone joins in the Krishtotsav, observed by the ashramites. Besides, there are cultural events and memorial lecture.

Although real estate is booming, still the place is comfortably swathed in green and with not much auto mobile traffic (walking or cycling is the common mode of commuting), Shantiniketan offers a welcome weekend getaway, any time throughout the year and specially during its festive days.

For a better Ecotourism the people from all quarters have to help the government. Whether its local authorities or developer or local people or the tourist all have to play an active part in having a successful ecotourism spot. The government alone cannot make this ecotourism successful. Everyone should follow the rules and guidelines so make the attempt of government successful.

Besides this non-governmental organizations and scientific and research institutions also have to play a key role. The management of ecotourism should make a 20 years of Master Plan for each state This plan should include construction of proper roads and railway, greenery, Garbage disposal utensils and drums everywhere, Banners and Advertisement to make people aware of effects of garbage disposal here n there. The tourist should also take care of the need to protect the environment. Many hospitality sectors have developed who have adopted environment-friendly practices like conserving energy and water and recycling of unutilized hotel outputs.

Now a days, the political parties, non government organization, print and tele media are taking active part to aware people about the destruction we are making by not protecting our environment.
The Government has also set up institutions like the Central and State Pollution Control Board to deal with the defaulters. The state governments also have Departments of Environment and Pollution Control. The Ministry of Tourism has issued ecotourism guidelines for adoption by all concerned organisations. Some tourism bodies and associations like the Pacific Travel Association have introduced an ecotourism pledge which requires their members to adopt environment-friendly practices.

Government departments working for Ecotourism in India.

The Government of India has set up a group of Ministers under the Minister of Tourism to coordinate activities of various government departments and agencies. Many of the activities in the tourism sector are dependent on initiatives of the state governments. Enlightened state governments like Kerala, Goa and Rajasthan have done a lot to attract more tourists by making facilities more tourist friendly.

Shantiniketan has become a famous tourist spot because of its garden village look which compels you to come again and again specially in spring. This is because Rabindranath Tagore inspired of Holi(a festival of colours). He introduced Vasanta Utsav, the festival of spring here. Not only youth but also old generation takes active participation in Holi here, All were dressed in traditional colors like yellow, white, and red dhotis, kurtas, and saris, celebrating Holi in a very special way. Not only they play with colors but also sing Tagore songs and dance with it. Thousands of people come from all over the world to see this festival here. Though there are so many enjoyment but the place don’t lose its ambience and heavenly experience. Everyone looked simple and gay as though they did not have any worries in the world.

Heavenly experience , enthusiastic participation from all people make the spring in shantiniketan a different one from any any of india
